چکیده

LiNbO a crystal has excellent electro-optical and non-linear optical properties [1, 2]. However local fluctuations of the refractive index and light scattering centers prevent a wider application of this material in optical devices. Since sub-grain boundaries seem to cause such inconvenience, the production of sub-grain free LiNbO a crystals is strongly required. Various properties of molten L i N b 0 3 , such as viscosity, density, and surface tension have recently been measured in order to understand the growth of LiNbOa single crystals in the Czochralski method [3,4]. The viscosity of molten L i N b 0 3 is relatively high just above the melting point (1526 K) and then decreases strongly in the range up to 1553 K [4]. A similar anomalous behaviour has been detected for other physical properties of molten L iNb0 3 and may be related to the appearance of subgrain boundaries during the growth of L i N b 0 3 crystals from the melt [4]. The structure of molten L i N b 0 3 seems not to have been studied as yet. This prompted us to present our results obtained with a high temperature X-ray diffraction method. A miniature furnace composed of four small silicon carbide ceramic heaters in a refractory brick (Fig. 1) used for our measurements. This furnace, set in a high temperature chamber as described in detail in [5], made it possible to maintain the sample temperature

Structural Characterization and Ordering Transformation of Mechanically Alloyed Nanocrystalline Fe-28Al Powder

The synthesis of nanocrystalline Fe3Al powder by mechanical alloying as well as the structural ordering of the synthesized Fe3Al particles during the subsequent thermal analysis were investigated. Mechanical alloying was performed up to 100 hours using a planetary ball mill apparatus with rotational speed of 300 rpm under argon atmosphere at ambient temperature. The synthesized powders were cha...

X-ray Diffraction Study of Molten Te and Tl-Te Alloys

X-ray diffraction patterns have been obtained from molten Te at 470, 520 and 570 °C. The heights of the peak maxima in the structure factor were much the same in contrast with those of typical molten metals such as sodium. Molten Tl-Te alloys have been studied by X-ray diffraction for the alloy compositions 25, 33.3, 50, 60 and 75 at% Te at 500 °C and at about 20 °C above the liquidus. The tota...

Abstract: titanium sheets in pure molten aluminum at 750 and X-Ray Diffraction Analysis results, TiAlintermetallic layer thickness increases slowly at primary stages. After that an enhanced growth rate occurs due to layercracking and disruption. Presumably, reaction starts with solving titanium into the molten aluminum causing intitanium super saturation and TiAlintermetallic layer which conseq...

The effects of different molten salt composition on morphology and purity of ZrB2 powder obtained via direct molten salt reaction method

Zirconium Diboride (ZrB2) powder was synthesized at low temperature via a Direct Molten Salt Reaction (DMSR) method. The influence of different salt compositions including eutectic mixture of (KF-NaF), (KF-KCl) and (KCl-NaCl) on the morphology and purity of the reaction products was studied. The obtained samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD...

The structure of molten CuCl: Reverse Monte Carlo modeling with high-energy X-ray diffraction data and molecular dynamics of a polarizable ion model.

The results of the structural properties of molten copper chloride are reported from high-energy X-ray diffraction measurements, reverse Monte Carlo modeling method, and molecular dynamics simulations using a polarizable ion model. The simulated X-ray structure factor reproduces all trends observed experimentally, in particular the shoulder at around 1 Å(-1) related to intermediate range orderi...
